Thinking of the whole climate change and environmentally responsible companies, I was wondering if our crystal chandeliers are ecologically responsible. On a first visit to a crystal chandelier factory, could be thought that we are not responsible for the environment. But then what kind of world are we leaving our children?
Fortunately, reality is not so simple. Nowadays any crystal chandelier factory that complies with current legislation in Spain would not dispose of their waste as they do in third world countries. All the machinery we use to produce crystal chandeliers are connected to suction tubes that carry waste deposits. Later these deposits are collected by recycling companies who are responsible for their classification and treatment. The same goes for metal shavings, which are re-melted to obtain new pieces of polishing brushes or cans leftover laquer. Even water and liquids used in the electrolytic baths are treated in sewage treatment plants that each company has in its facilities. By complying with these regulations on waste treatment is also a cost to adding to crystal chandeliers. This is about cost savings in third world countries, representing a competitive advantage in the market, but a disadvantage for the planet.
